The Things That Become a Phenomenon

There are a lot of things that happened around us, but there are few that become a phenomenon to others and spread widely. The things that become a phenomenon is not limited to music or fashion, but it is also include the other things that attract people to involve together. 

So, the things that become a phenomenon are:

1. Asymmetrical Hair Cut


Introducing her asymmetrical bob hair cut in 'Umbrella' video clip, Rihanna becomes the central attention in hair style in 2007. Later on, her hair style followed by celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria, Hayden Panettiere, Katie Holmes, Selena Gomez, Charlize Theron and a lot more. The asymmetrical hair cut  was happened to be a trend in 1985-1988, started by The Human League, even though somehow they called it as the fashion disaster.

2. The Gangnam Style
Rise from South Korea country, the horse dance in Gangnam Style video clip was hot in Youtube in 2012 with many cover dance made by people all over the world. Psy, the male solo singer of YG Entertainment now becomes the ambassador of music and fashion for his country and his horse dance is one of the catchy dance style, loved by kids for morning exercise in China and followed by well-known people such as Hugh Jackman, Shah Rukh Khan and Google Executive chairman, Eric Schmidt.



3. Korean Peplum
Again, Korean taste tickles its fan through fashion style. Originated its name from Greek, which means 'tunic',  and also one of women's garment in ancient Greek (called as Peplos). In 1940, peplum had been introduced in vertical patterns while in 1980s, peplum was more flowery and polka dot. Later on, Korean designer brings the past sensation to new, based on the traditional Korean garment called Hanbok. Peplum becomes popular instantly as the customer believed that peplum helps them to look classy, sweet, feminine and hiding the distended belly.







4. Harlem Shake
This crazy Harlem Shake becomes so famous in 2013, went viral and become an Internet meme and remake by a lot of Youtuber. The original Harlem Shake dance was came from Harlem resident called 'Al B' and referred as 'Albee' according to its name in 1981. Later on, the name has changed when the shake dance widely spread out from its neighbourhood. The shake dance is based on East African dance called Eskista and the dance is a drunken shake anyway and featured in G. Dep music video, 'Let's get it'. But the dance that been done in the Internet meme is claimed not the Harlem Shake.



5. The Fitflop
Fitflop is the hot top sandals used by billions of people around the world. Created and designed creatively based on customer's wide demand gives more exclusive style that suitable for leisure and to work. Marcia Kilgore, the creator and the entrepreneur of The Fitflop, she began to realized women need something easy on their feet. Starting the design and experiment in 2005, her hardwork pays off in 2013 when her design is on the top and followed by other shoemakers.


6. K-Pop
K-Pop becomes a phenomenon through five male idols in TVXQ or also known as DBSK. Later on, under the same roof of company (SME), Girls Generation and Super Junior had tickled their fans in Asia. The impact of K-Pop becomes more in USA through five female idols in Wonder Girls (JYPE) with their song 'Nobody' in 2008-2009 and even their dance movement attracts more fans from Europe. Later on, the new group called Shinee breaks the K-Pop sensation with their cuff-dance movement in 2010-2011. In 2012, Psy brings K-Pop wave to all over the world with his hit song, Gangnam Style.


7. Blue Mint Hair Colour
Blue mint hair colour becomes a big trend in 2011-2012 among celebrities, followed by youngsters all over the world. Katy Perry brought her blue hair after her divorce and became her fashion statement. Meanwhile, TOP of Big Bang's Korean male group was in his blue hair for their song promotion, Blue in 2012. Korean celebrities seem very like this hair colour as it was followed by Hyosung of SECRET, Park Bom and Minzy of 2EN1, Mir of MBLAQ and Youngwon of Dalmation. Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj were seem doing it just for fashion fun.


The other phenomenons are:

  • The using of #hashtag in social network (e.g: #Off #to #the #mall #eating #shit...what the--?)
  • Taking picture above and make wide eyes with pout lips (camwhore),
  • The using of short word (acronym) such as lmfao, lol, wtf, wth 
  • Instagram application for instant picture uploading through social network,
  • Internet meme self comic (affirmatively~)
and everything that happens repeatedly  widely spread, loved and followed by many people. That's a phenomenon :-)
