My Singapore Stamps

As I mention before, I have several kinds of stamps in my little collection. My passion to collect the stamps had passed the border in early 2003 when I received 'stamp donations' by my classmate. So for this entry, I would like to introduce my Singapore stamps.

Name: Vanda Miss Joaquim
Denomination: 30 cent
Year: 1967 (according to the mark on the stamp)
Info:
Orchid is the national flower of Singapore
Vanda Miss Joaquim was named after Agnes Joaquim, the horticulturist who found this natural hybrid in Singapore.
This stamp is the first of many Singapore stamps featuring this flower

Name: Amphiprion Percula (Orange Clownfish)
Denomination: 5 cent
Year: 1962 
Info:
This stamp is also known Malaysia-Singapore Orange Clownfish stamp.
Singapore becomes an independent country in 1965.


Name: Indian dance performance
Denomination: 10 cent
Year: 1973
Info:
There were six more denominations of this collection- 5 cent Sword dance, 6 cent Lion dance, 15 cent Sumatran dance, 20 cent Indian dance mask, 25 cent Chinese Opera dance mask and 50 cent Malayan candle dance.

Year: 1962

There were two denominations of this collection, one of it is Singapore Clownfish.
It was overprinted in 1981 for the Singapore Stamp Club First Day Cover

The 6 cent denomination version was in Chinese
This stamp was part of the early exposure for Singapore as a new island-nation.

Year: 26-04-1980

Golekkan is a type of yacht/ship
The 10 cent denomination was the Fujian Junk

Denomination: 30 cent (definitive)
Year: 19-03-1997
Info:
This stamp is one of the Singapore's vehicle and transport collection.
A famous transportation during British administration in Singapore.

Info:
This stamp is a promotion of Chinese medicine, probably one of the favourite place for Chinese people to get medicine rather than hospital or clinics.

Name: Singapore Christmas
Denomination: 50 cent
Year: 2004
Info:
This stamp was issued for Christmas Day, one of the biggest celebration in Singapore including Chinese New Year and Deepavali.
Christmas caroling is a tradition in a night before 25 December.


Name: Singapore Hari Raya Aidilfitri
Denomination: 50 cent
Year: 2006
Info:
This stamp was issued for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, celebrated by Muslims during Syawal.
Islam is a minor religion in Singapore.
There is another Hari Raya stamp released at the same year, known as Singapore Hari Raya Aidilfitri 1st Local 2006.
